View Craig and Clive's Progress on their Walk

Craig and Clive keep us updated on their progress...

Day 1

It was a challenge with 70mph winds and flooded paths but we made it to Carlisle. Only 139 miles to go! Join us for a day!

 Day 2

That was supposed to be an easy second day - a mere 10 miles. The remaining 129 look challenging as does tomorrow's 14.5 mile jaunt!  Lovely views of the Eden Valley, though.

Day 3

Another 14.5 miles under the belt only 114 to go. Set off at 9 arrived here at 4.30 - at that rate we will see you at Christmas. No one told me that the last 7 miles is 5 times the length of the first 7! Gentle 10.5 miles tomorrow. Great steak for tea.

Day 4

That's more like it - a gentle 10 miles and at the pub in Appleby for 3pm. Didn't appreciate I was walking with Dr Doolittle...Clive the Sheep Herder made an appearance guiding a lost sheep back to its field. Hope my colleagues enjoy their departmental meeting. I'm thinking of you all...

Day 5

Have arrived at Ravenstondale just in time to avoid the downpour. Michelle and Hazel joining us tonight and bringing much needed fresh supplies. Can't really avoid the hills now so two tough days in store - to Garsdale Head tomorrow and from there to Horton. The Browns, Birtwells and Houghtons all aiming to do the Sunday walk and hopefully carry our rucksacks!

Day 6

A challenging but rewarding walk brings us to the halfway point with the longest walk to come tomorrow. Some rain but not as much as forecast and some spectacular scenery on the way. Day perfected by knowledge of another  PNE victory. Onwards and upwards!

Day 7

When I posted yesterday's blog, whilst I knew Clive had a sore left foot I had no idea of the scale of the same. By yesterday evening large blisters had turned into a wound and after medical treatment Clive was told that under no circumstances could he walk until the skin had healed. Its a testament to his character that he walked 12 miles on Saturday whilst that injury was worsening without even hinting that he was struggling - I wouldn't have done 12 yards in that condition.
Today Michelle and Andi and Bonni joined me for the toughest day of the walk from Garsdale to Horton.

 Day 8

This was much tougher than I expected today! Weather very poor and the feet were fairly consistently sore for the first time. I was joined today by my friends Andrew and Ruth Baxendale and by fellow Partner John Webster and his dog Martha. Ruth did say that she wouldn't speak to me again at the end of the walk. I think she was joking. One great crowd pleaser for the Fieldings Porter staff was John Webster falling in the mud.

Day 9

Showing enormous determination, Clive had his wound redressed and completed this day which was some effort. He is planning to do some of Wednesday and all of the final day if possible. From my point of view it's getting harder each day. I have a fairly consistent pain in the left foot on walking but thankfully no blisters or wounds. This was physically the easiest day but it felt like one of the hardest. We are now some 45 ish miles from the finish.

Day 10

A tough but excellent walk with two experienced walkers Basil and Stuart joining us. Clive did the full walk despite his bandaged foot - he is just showing off now. A steep climb over the fells followed by a long but gentle walk along the Hodder. Two shouts go out - firstly to the landlord of the Red Pump who kindly took pity on us even though we arrived just after he was closing and secondly to Mr and Mrs Bentley who gave £20 to a rabble of 4 muddy walkers on the banks of the Hodder. 31 miles to go.

Day 11

The consensus is that my estimate of 17.4 miles was more like 20 and our legs are feeling it now. Messers Young, Duncan, Cunliffe and Hayes joined us today together with Zeko the dog. Thanks to all those from the criminal dept who turned out for the evening meal today to offer their support which is greatly appreciated.

Day 12

Craig and Clive are on the final stretch today and should be back later this afternoon. Look out for them in Bolton Town Centre from about 4.00pm!
