Master of the Rolls Visits Fieldings Porter

Master of the Rolls to visit Bolton

England’s most senior civil Judge recently visited Bolton.  During his visit, the Master of the Rolls, Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, met with a gathering of local Solicitors.  The day also included a visit to Bolton Combined Court, and Lord Neuberger visited Fieldings Porter Solicitors to unveil a plaque in honour of the Firm’s 140th anniversary year.

The Master of the Rolls sits as a Judge in the Court of Appeal and is President of its Civil Division.  Earlier this year, he reported on the use of superinjunctions and made headlines recently when he suggested that Section 159 of the Equality Act 2010 might be used to allow more female and ethnic minority judicial appointments to be prioritised when candidates are otherwise equal.

Lord Neuberger visited Bolton to discuss with local Solicitors issues which currently face provincial Law Firms.  Edward Nally, Senior Partner of Fieldings Porter said “We are delighted that the Master of the Rolls visited Bolton.  It is both an honour and an exciting opportunity for local lawyers to have met with one of the most senior Judges in the land and to engage in discussion with him.  Lord Neuberger has expressed an impressive desire to see how local justice is working in practice in a major provincial town such as Bolton.  Local Practitioners and our local Judges will give an insight that he will be able to use in his important work around access to justice nationally”.
