Former Press Operator Secures Hearing Loss Damages

A woman who formerly worked as a tin plate press operator has obtained damages after suffering from noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).

The woman had worked for her employer for six years, working five days a week. Her job involved stamping out tin lids and the bottoms of tins using an industrial press. She was exposed to noise from the presses she and her colleagues operated. Despite the high levels of noise in her workplace, she was never warned about the dangers of noise exposure and was never given hearing protection.

After she began to suffer from NIHL, she brought a claim against her former employer. Medical evidence in support of her claim was obtained and, following negotiations, a significant settlement was agreed.
