A man who developed noise-induced hearing loss caused by repeated exposure to excessive noise during his service in the Armed Forces has secured damages.
The man served from 1985 to 1999. During this time he was regularly exposed to noise from various firearms at close proximity. He was never provided with suitable hearing protection, however, and was often instructed not to wear the earplugs that were available. No information or formal training on the risks of noise exposure was provided, and he did not recall being given hearing tests.
After he began to suffer from hearing loss, he sought legal advice. A medical report was obtained which confirmed that he had noise-induced hearing loss, caused by noise exposure during his time in the Armed Forces.
He has now secured a settlement of £40,000.
