£75,000 for Former Moulder Who Developed Asbestosis

A man who had spent several months working in a factory where asbestos was used has obtained compensation after he later developed asbestosis.

His employer manufactured a number of products made with asbestos, including heated flue pipes and roofing materials. While wet-moulding products, he worked near machines into which raw asbestos powder was fed. Colleagues who worked nearby were sanding down asbestos pipes and fittings, generating large quantities of asbestos dust. However, he was never supplied with respiratory protection and was not warned of the dangers posed by asbestos.

In 2022 he was diagnosed with asbestosis, a serious lung condition that affects people who have been exposed to asbestos. Symptoms of asbestosis can take 20 to 30 years to appear. Although treatment can improve the symptoms, the disease cannot be cured.

After he brought a claim against his former employer, a settlement of £75,000 was secured.
