Additional Payment Secured for Mesothelioma Treatment

A man who previously obtained a compensation settlement after being diagnosed with mesothelioma has secured an additional sum to pay for medical treatment.

The man, now aged 69, had previously worked as carpenter. In 2019 he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos which most commonly affects the lining of the lungs. He brought a claim against his former employers and received a six-figure settlement. An indemnity order for private medical treatment was also obtained.

As mesothelioma is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, treatment is usually focused on controlling the symptoms and prolonging life for as long as possible. The man was expected to live for 12 months at the time of diagnosis. However, he received active treatment and took part in clinical trials, and his condition saw periods of stability. He aims to live life to the fullest and continues to play golf regularly.

In March 2024 a CT scan revealed that the cancer had progressed. The indemnity order meant that he was able to secure the funds needed for immunotherapy treatment without any delay. Fortunately, his condition is now stable again.
