A man who used to work in a foundry and subsequently developed noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) has succeeded in his claim for damages against his former employer.
The man worked at the foundry for at least 40 hours a week between 1997 and 2003. He worked with more than 100 other employees, operating a variety of machines in a noisy environment. However, he claimed that he was never provided with hearing protection.
After he sought compensation for hearing damage from his former employer, medical evidence was obtained which confirmed that he was suffering from NIHL. His case went to trial and judgment was found in his favour.
He has now received compensation of £10,235.
