Woman Trampled in Holiday Camel Ride Secures Compensation

Holiday experiences can change from good to bad in an instant, but where injuries are sustained the impact can be felt for years to come. Such was the case with a 61-year-old woman who was dragged along a Fuerteventura beach for several metres after being thrown from a camel during a holiday excursion.

The incident took place in June 2017 and resulted in the woman suffering a fractured pelvis, broken ribs, a collapsed lung, head and facial injuries and damage to her left knee.

After being flipped head-first onto the sand by the camel, the woman reported being stamped on and kicked by another camel, which was stood in front of the first. Still caught by her leg in the seat strap, she was then dragged along the beach, leaving her in agony.

She was transferred to a major trauma centre in the UK after spending several days in a Spanish hospital. She required four months off work as a result of her injuries.

After the camel excursion provider's insurers  admitted liability, the woman has secured compensation that will go towards specialist rehabilitation and medical costs.
