Lasting Powers of Attorney

A lasting power of attorney allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions for you if you lose the capacity to make the decisions yourself in the future. You can have a lasting power of attorney regarding your property and financial affairs, and also an attorney regarding your health and welfare.

A lasting power of attorney ensures that you have someone you trust and have nominated yourself, to take care of your assets and to make decisions in your best interests.

A lasting power of attorney for financial affairs allows a nominated person to take care of your financial assets. This can include paying bills, managing your bank accounts, buying or selling your home and collecting benefits or a pension.

A lasting power of attorney for health and welfare allows a nominated person to make decisions regarding your medical care, your daily routine (including washing and eating), moving into a care home and decisions on life sustaining treatment.
