£2,000 Damages for Catering Worker Who Developed Dermatitis

A catering worker who developed occupational dermatitis due to exposure to cleaning fluids has secured compensation.

His work involved food preparation and cleaning, and he was frequently exposed to cleaning chemicals. The gloves his employer provided him with had holes that allowed the chemicals to come into contact with his hands.

He began to experience symptoms of dermatitis. No significant changes were made after he raised the issue with his employer, and his symptoms persisted despite treatment, only beginning to improve after he was moved to a different role.

He obtained legal advice and brought a claim against his employer. Medical evidence was obtained confirming the diagnosis of occupational dermatitis and the exposure to hazardous substances.

His claim was settled for £2,000 shortly before it was due to come to trial.
