Skier Injured in Collision Secures Five-Figure Damages

A skier has obtained compensation for injuries he suffered when he was hit from behind by another skier.

The man, a ski coach with decades of experience, was on holiday with his family. As he was skiing down a slope, the other skier lost control and came over a ridge behind him at high speed. He had no time to avoid a collision and they both fell down a 10- to 15-metre bank at the edge of the slope.

He sustained a broken thumb and shoulder, and was taken to hospital. He was unable to lift his arm for a long time after the accident, and had to take time off work.

He brought a claim against the other skier's insurer, alleging that the other skier had been skiing too quickly, had failed to choose a suitable route and had not adjusted his actions in accordance with the slope he was on. The insurer agreed to settle his claim for a five-figure sum.
